The Walkmen - You and Me
Their new (or new-ish) album is getting heavy play on my iPod as of late. It's not my favourite album of 2008 --Real Emotional Trash gets that nod-- but it's way, way up there.
This is an album that requires your full attention, though. Otherwise, you might not see what is at work here. There's a very steady, breezy, casual lull to this, which may be mistaken as "dull," but I assure you it's not.
Yeah, this pseudo-review is just a smidgen late, but I just had to gush about it anyway.

I just got off the phone with a very important interviewee and he was one of the most helpful people I have ever talked to. See, things like that, as pathetic as it sounds, really brightens a journalism student's day.

On the way to school this morning, I overheard a girl saying that, for Halloween, she dressed up as a "post-modern Alice in Wonderland."
...Now, I'm not going to pass judgement on Pretentious McSnootypants, but how does one dress up as a post-modern anything? Whatever. I'm just waiting for her next Halloween costume: Post-Colonial Snow White.
